We provide
Excavation & Mining
Solutions
Our mining and geotechnical research combines research and industry-based expertise in a close working relationship with local governments and mining partners. We offer a wealth of experience in geomechanics and provide a broad range of advanced research and development support for large-scale excavation and mining projects. Our group continues to be at the forefront of geotechnical engineering applications for mine design, assessment and closure, with a strong focus on computational slope stability analysis, in-situ and non-destructive site inspection methods and material constitutive behaviour.
We conduct
Computational
Slope Stability Analysis
• Nonlinear constitutive behaviour for landslides and slope failure
• Creep behaviour and viscoplasticity of soils
• Spatially variable slope stability analysis
• Stratigraphic uncertainty for slope stability analysis
• eXtended Finite Element Method for jointed slopes
• Large deformation post-failure simulation
• Risk assessment for large open pit mines
We design
In-Situ and Geophysical
Site Investigations
• Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW)
• Ground Penetrating Radar to identify jointed slopes
• Pressuremeter Testing
• Permeability Testing
• Cone Penetration Testing
