We have recently presented at the World Wind Wave Energy Conference 2023, held in Hobart this week. A focus of the presentation was the expected seabed materials found in the Bass Strait for offshore renewable energy development zone and suitable offshore wind foundations. Due to the widely varying water depth, the selection of foundation structures is key to the cost and performance of major offshore wind projects. As the interest in Tasmanian offshore wind continues to grow, understanding Northern Tasmania’s offshore geotechnical conditions provides a number of opportunities and challenges unique to the region, which are central to Tasmania’s renewable energy target of 200% by 2040.
